The following movies have been one of the most popular movies of 2025 so far. With a mix of comedy, sci-fi, thriller, these movies offer it all.
Happy Gilmore 2:
It follows the story of a retired hockey player, Happy Gilmore (played by Adam Sandler). Happy had a booming career as a hockey player – he grew very famous and won six tour championships.
He had a beautiful and loving family with his wife, Violet (played by Julie Bowen). They have four sons and two daughters, and Happy soon retires to spend time with them.
Until, one day he accidentally kills his wife, after which he goes into depression.
The movie begins thirty years after the entire incident, his sons are shown to be all grown up and have moved out to support their sister and father, who has now become a raging alcoholic.
The daughter, who is skilled at dance, is suggested by her dance mentor to attend the famous Paris Opera Ballet School. However, it is a costly investment, amounting up to $300,000.

In order to raise the amount, Happy begins golfing again for his sake and his daughter’s, after he gets the opportunity to do so.
What follows is a journey of unexpected challenges, second-chances and self-redemption.
This comedic storyline is guaranteed to keep you laughing, all while it explores the complexities of inter-personal relationships and personal growth.
The Naked Gun:
The Naked Gun (2025) is a sequel to the original trilogy, and it stars Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr.
His father, Frank Drebin was also a former police officer, and Drebin Jr. must now live up to his legacy and save the Police Squad that is under him from being shut down.
He must now showcase his skills and solve a high-level case to prove his capability. While the movie is bound to keep many laughing, there are also some controversial jokes, which have been critiqued by many.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps
This movie is based on the Marvel Comics superhero team, Fantastic Four. When these four astronauts go to space on a mission, exposure to cosmic rays gives them superhero abilities and powers.
Following this they have become famous and have helped fight villains and restore peace and order on Earth.
However, while they are still navigating and figuring through their powers, they are met with a threat like none other – a threat that could wipe out humanity!
Now these superheroes must come together to ward off this threat, or bear the consequences.
Written by the esteemed Josh Friedman, Eric Pearson, and Jeff Kaplan, this thrilling superhero movie has amassed a large number of fans.
My Oxford Year:
This movie is based on the famous book My Oxford year by Julia Whelan. It follows the story of Anna De La Vega (Sofia Carson) and Jamie Davenport (Corey Mylchreest).
Anna is an American scholar who has come to Oxford, UK to pursue her masters in Victorian poetry at Oxford University. This is where she meets the charming protagonist, Jamie.
After a not-so-meet-cute, fate eventually brings them together as Jamie coincidentally turns out to be her professor. What was supposed to be a “casual” affair turns into something more, as they eventually end up falling in love.
However, soon the movie reveals a gut-wrenching, rather sad plot twist, surprising the viewers. While many enjoyed the movie, claiming that the ending destroyed them, others were not so happy.

For many, there was a lack of chemistry between the actors, and the book lovers were not happy about the fact that the story line was toyed around with.
A lot of the viewers were also left disappointed by Carson’s acting. However, if you are looking for a comedic and happy yet emotional story, this might just be the one.
Superman:
This movie is based on the character of Superman from the DC Comics. The lead (played by Clark Kent) must manage his journalism alongside his superhero tasks.
However, he is met with difficulty when his values are brought to test by billionaire Lex Luther, as he tries to undermine him.
The game that Lex is playing is not physical, rather psychological. By tapping into the already existing fears of people – distrust of power and media, alien influence, etc,. – he intends to make them question the authenticity of Superman.
His aim is to make the masses turn against him, now Superman must prevent this and continue protecting the people.
It also features his canine companion, Krypto, in an effort to show his vulnerability. Other DC Universe characters like Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, and Green Lantern also make an appearance.
War of the Worlds:
It is a work of science-fiction and explores how modern day humans fight against technologically superior invaders of the Earth.
Will Radford (played by Ice Cube) is an analyst for the US government, and with the aid of computer systems, he discovers an extraterrestrial threat looming upon Earth.
The arrival of the aliens is not marked by violence and bloodshed, rather it is signalled by an atmospheric shift, mass disappearances and technological disruptions.
Will works to prevent this invasion, however it soon comes to light that the government might be involved.
Now, Will must try to stop this, despite internal interventions. This science fiction thriller is based on the 1898 novel.
