Kim Kardashian has opened up about a worrying health diagnosis that has taken on an especially emotional meaning because of her late father, Robert Kardashian.
In the trailer for season eight of The Kardashians, Kim revealed that she had been diagnosed with esophagitis, a condition involving inflammation and irritation of the esophagus.
The diagnosis immediately brought memories of her father flooding back.
Robert Kardashian died from esophageal cancer in 2003 at the age of 59, and in the trailer, Kim confirms that his cancer was connected to the condition.
For her sister Khloé Kardashian, their father’s illness remains an emotional subject.
Speaking on her Khloé in Wonder Land podcast in 2025, she recalled just how quickly his cancer progressed.
“My dad died really quickly,” Khloé said. “He had esophageal cancer and I think he died six or seven weeks after diagnosis.”
The Kardashian siblings have since worked to keep their father’s legacy alive, including helping establish the UCLA Robert G. Kardashian Center for Esophageal Health in 2019.
Kim has previously explained that the center represents an important part of her father’s legacy.
She said her family could not save his life with the technology and medical access available at the time, but they could now help save other people’s lives.

Esophagitis is inflammation of the esophagus and can have several causes.
