One of the most destructive wildfires in Los Angeles history is tearing its way through the county and destroying many celebrities’ homes.
The wildfire, which began Tuesday morning, has scorched more than 17,000 acres.
There is no containment, high winds, and arid conditions, and it is exploding between Malibu and Santa Monica, exploding across thousands of acres of land now.
Firefighters have been battling five across LA Palisades: Eaton, Hurst, Lidia, and Sunset, and couldn’t contain it because the fire was spreading so quickly.
Five people have been confirmed dead so far, and more than 100,000 residents have been ordered to evacuate, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The fire has also destroyed more than 2,000 homes, businesses and other buildings.
Southern California’s Pacific Palisades has been completely evacuated.
CNN’s Leigh Waldman reported from the scene: “Everyone keeps saying ‘apocalyptic,’ but that doesn’t begin to cover it.”
The consequences of the fires are being dealt with by many, including many celebrities, in the Pacific Palisades area which has seen the largest fire.
Below find out what stars have been affected:
Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton is one of the A-listers who saw her Malibu home, where she lived with her husband Carter Reum, son Phoenix, and daughter London, burn to the ground on live TV.
The reality star shared on Instagram she was ‘heartbroken beyond words,’ adding: “This home was where we built so many precious memories. It’s where Phoenix took his first steps and where we dreamed of building a lifetime of memories with London.
“While the loss is overwhelming, I’m holding onto gratitude that my family and pets are safe.”
Billy Crystal
Actor Billy Crystal and his wife Janice have also said their home of 46 years in Pacific Palisades, where they raised their children and grandchildren, has been destroyed by the raging fires.
In a joint statement, the couple shared with The Hollywood Reporter: “Words cannot describe the enormity of the devastation we are witnessing and experiencing.
“We ache for our friends and neighbors who have also lost their homes and businesses in this tragedy.”
The When Harry Met Sally… actor added: “Every inch of our house was filled with love. Beautiful memories that can’t be taken away.
“We are heartbroken of course but with the love of our children and friends, we will get through this. We pray for the safety of the firefighters and first responders.”
Eugene Levy, the actor appearing on Schitt’s Creek, was forced to evacuate his home after being stuck in gridlock and intense smoke.
Levy told The LA Times: “The smoke looked pretty black and intense over Temescal Canyon, I couldn’t see any flames but the smoke was very dark.”
It has now been confirmed that the actor has lost his home to the flames.
Sir Anthony Hopkins
The Silence of the Lambs star Sir Anthony Hopkins has lost his home and only the foundations of the house remain.
The 2018 Woosley Fire nearly took the actor’s home in Los Angeles, and his other home in Kensington, London, was lost to a fire, per MailOnline.
Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt
California wildfires have burnt down The Hills stars Heidi Montag and her husband Spencer Pratt’s home, the couple have documented via social media.
Earlier in the day, the couple and their two sons safely evacuated.
Adam Brody and Leighton Meester
The devastating wildfires that ripped through California even burned down the $6.5 million house of Nobody Wants This star Adam Brody and his Gossip Girl actress wife Leighton Meester.
The couple bought the home in 2019 and brought up their two young children there.
The BBC reported that Casino actor James Wood, Roseanne star John Goodman, Scary Movie‘s Anna Faris, The Princess Bride actor Cary Elwes, TV host Ricki Lake, Top Gun: Maverick star Miles Teller, and Star Wars actor Mark Hamill and actor and TV host Cameron Mathison have also lost their homes in the wildfire.
High winds and drought in the area make the vegetation dry and very easy to burn, and that’s what the officials believe is causing the fires.
Climate change has also been cited many times as a probable impact. But exactly how that happened is unclear.
Residents are advised to evacuate immediately and stay informed about how the fires are moving.
