A woman is going viral on TikTok after slamming a famous restaurant that ‘doesn’t cater for vegans.’
Veganism is the practice of abstaining from using animal products, particularly in diet.
Yearly, the number of vegans is rising, with many wanting to do their best to help animal welfare and the planet.
With the steady increase in those following a plant-based diet, it makes sense for it to be reflected in where vegans can eat and drink.
On one occasion, Amie-Beth found this wasn’t the case…
In a TikTok video, the woman recounted visiting the popular Sheesh restaurant in Essex, U.K., following her mom’s recommendation.
Amie-Beth explained that it’s known for its celebrity clientele and that ‘people don’t just go there for the food’ but also the ‘vibes.’
She wanted to get ‘dressed up,’ visit the eatery, catch up with a friend, and enjoy a nice meal.
The TikToker said she had previously visited the eatery and was informed she couldn’t just order sides from the menus, as there weren’t any vegan options on the main menu.
To check the situation wouldn’t be the same again, she claims she rang the restaurant to check whether its policy had been updated.
Amie-Beth recounted: “We rang them up [and said] basically my friend wants to come, she’s a vegan so there’s nothing on the main menu she can order, would it be okay if she just ordered sides? Because she’s been before and that wasn’t allowed?”
She claims a woman on the other side of the phone responded: “We don’t cater for vegans… I don’t even know why a vegan would even want to come to our restaurant anyway.”
Concluding the video, the TikToker said: “It’s 2023, being a vegan isn’t weird.
“We were just asking a question, fair enough if that’s your policy, but… I just can’t believe that a restaurant that is so well-known would be so rude.”
After watching Amie-Beth’s video, some viewers took to the comments and defended the restaurant, pointing out it’s largely known for its meat-based dishes.
One person said: “It is a meat restaurant though.”
Agreeing, another added: “A restaurant does not need to change their policies and way of business to accommodate your lifestyle choices.”
In response to such comments, Amie-Beth pointed out: “It’s a Turkish restaurant: many Turkish restaurants serve falafel. It’s not predominately meat. Saying that I have been to steakhouses offering vegan.”
