Vermont Business Journal The Agency for Human Services (AHS) today announced the appointment of Brendan Krause as the new Director of Health Care Reform. Krause brings a wealth of experience in health systems and policy, with a distinguished career spanning government roles and health technology.
Most recently, Brendan served as the International Head of Health at Uber, where he worked directly with global health systems to eliminate transportation barriers to access to health care. Prior to his role at Uber, he spent 12 years at Optum, collaborating with the UK’s National Health Service to improve population health management.
During his time at Optum, Brendan held various roles from policy analysis to solution development and he was instrumental in creating an international strategy for UK Optum products that was rolled out globally. Additionally, he played a key role in establishing the UK branch of OptumLabs, a partnership with academic and non-profit institutions that use data science to drive healthcare improvements.
Krause’s career began in Washington, DC, where he spent eight years in the Health Policy Division of the National Governors Association. There, he focused on Medicaid and health reform, quality improvement, and health care access issues. He holds a BA from the University of Florida and an M.Sc. from the London School of Economics, where he specialized in international health reform and health economics as a US-UK Fulbright Scholar.
“We are excited to welcome Brendan Krause to the AHS team,” said Jenney Samuelson, AHS Secretary. “His extensive experience and innovative approach to health care reform will be invaluable as we continue to advance our mission to improve the conditions and well-being of people in Vermont.”
