Cynthia Erivo, starring in the famous movie Wicked, has recently expressed her interest to play the iconic X-Men character, Storm.
Storm, also known as Ororo Munroe, is a powerful mutant who is able to control the weather and is considered to be one of the most powerful mutants on the planet. She has been a prominent member and leader of the X-Men in Marvel Comics.

Meanwhile, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has slowly begun introducing the character of mutants. Projects like animated series X-Men’97 and films like Deadpool 3 featuring Wolverine, are part of this gradual expansion.
Looking ahead, mutants will be playing a significant role in the new Marvel film, Post-Avengers: Secret Wars Phase. It is expected to release in 2027. Hence, casting for X-men characters is speculated to be of large priority in the coming years.
Although the mutant Storm has previously been portrayed by Alexandra Shipp and Halle Berry, these appearances have been relatively brief. The mainline version has yet to be debuted.
Therefore, Erivo’s comment is quite timely with the entire situation, leaving fans wondering whether she will play the next Storm?

Erivo, in an interview with the National Board of Review was asked about her dream role, where she revealed:
“I really want to play Storm,” said Erivo.
“I know it sounds frivolous, but I think we haven’t uncovered how grand she is, and all of that inner turmoil she has,” added Erivo. “So I think there’s a world in which we could do something with that.”

However, many Storm fans are not too happy with her recent interest in the role saying: “nobody wants that but her”, claiming her to be an “awful choice”.
They remain conflicted between Halle Barry, the original live action Storm, and Alexandra Shipp, the younger version of Storm.

“She is absolutely NOT Ororo! Halle Berry played a good Storm.”
One user wrote: “No… no…. And again No!!!!!”
“Some people are just not meant for certain roles.”
“She has shown contempt and disdain for her own fans,” another fan claimed.
“How will she treat Marvel fans?”
The 38-year-old star is not the only one to have shown interest in playing the role of Storm.
In July 2020, Janelle Monáe also expressed her keen interest during an interview with Empire Magazine.

“I definitely have thrown it out there.”
“One of my dreams has always been to play Storm,” said Monáe, 39, at the time. “I don’t know if she comes in Black Panther, but it would be a dream to have her in it. I don’t know where they are with that.”
“A lot of women have played Storm and they’ve done an exceptional job,” added Monáe, “and I would love to be in that line of artists and get to do Storm justice.”
