Life is a balancing act of moments. In a few seconds, everything can change, for good or for bad. One minute you are smiling and cracking jokes with your buddies, executing the best things life has to offer, and the very next — handling the new reality that will change your course as you know it.
Even Stevens Disney star, Christy Carlson Romano just had exactly that experience. What was a routine day out to celebrate her husband’s birthday, quickly turned into a near-death experience after she was accidentally shot in the face during a clay pigeon shooting excursion. Just like that, her life fell apart in a few seconds, with one second cherishing the beauty of life and the next a harrowing visit to a hospital.
The fan favourite star, Christy Carlson Romano provided shocking details of the recent accident on Instagram, describing how a fun day out turned into a scary experience. On Feb. 8, 2025, the day that was meant to celebrate Christy Carlson Romano’s husband Brendan Rooney‘s birthday in Texas, she was having fun and making the best out of her husband’s birthday.
The pair had gone to a shooting range for a clay pigeon shooting session with a group of friends. All was normal, until the unanticipated occurred within seconds. Another group at the range shot in an unsafe direction, and stray bullet fragments ricocheted toward Romano. Before she could respond, she was hit in the face, and multiple fragments lodged in her skin, with one dangerously close to her right eye.
She mentioned in the Instagram post, “Yesterday was my husband’s birthday, and I took him to shoot clay pigeons as a present. There was another party with us, and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face,”
Her husband immediately rushed her to the hospital realizing the severity of injuries. On arrival, doctors assessed the damage. Romano was hit in five different areas of her face. One fragment was so deeply lodged behind her eye that doctors refused to remove it given the high risk surgery. Medical professionals explained Romano that attempting to remove the fragment could cause permanent blindness. Now, popular Disney actress is left with a constant reminder of the incident.
She mentioned in her post, “@thebrendanrooney immediately sprung into action, assessed me and rushed me to hospital. I was hit in 5 places one was less than an inch from hitting me directly in the right eye”
She added, “It is too risky to remove surgically at this time. Doctors will continue to monitor me (I can see normally at the moment).”
Despite the terrifying incident, Romano remained composed and grateful for being alive. She later shared her experience with fans expressing gratitude for her husband’s quick response and the doctors’ care. She also mentioned the sheer luck that saved her from the situation turning any worse.
She continued on Instagram, “With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive”
Advising fans to express their love for their dear ones as life can change in a split second, she said, “I saw my life flash before my eyes, and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant.”
