Eva Longoria is leaving the ‘dystopian’ US along with her family.
The actress said in an interview with Marie Claire that she and her family decided to split their time between Spain and Mexico and leave what she described as a ‘dystopian’ America.
Longoria looked back on her time in Los Angeles and said: ‘I had my whole adult life here.’
‘But it was already changing — even before [the pandemic].’ The vibe was different. Then COVID happened, and it finally pushed it over the edge. It’s the homelessness or the taxes – not that I want to s**t on California – but it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”
Some may raise eyebrows at her remarks given her history as a high profile Democrat.
But Longoria did say that he was concerned about Donald Trump’s second term in office.
“I would like to think our fight continues,” she stated, adding: It’s going to be a scary place as long as he keeps his promises.
Fortunately for Longoria she won’t be living in the U.S. to see it first hand.
Acknowledging her privilege, she admitted: And I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. ‘I was just thinking: They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”
But Longoria has since explained that her decision to divide her time between Mexico and Spain was not motivated by Donald Trump..
Speaking on ‘The View: She addressed misconceptions following a recent interview with Marie Claire on Behind the Table’ podcast.
During the podcast call, Longoria asked her friend Ana Navarro to help explain what exactly happened.
‘Please tell them I didn’t leave the United States because of Trump,’ she said.
‘Some media distorted my comments into ‘clickbait’ headlines,’ she said, expressing frustration.
“I’ve been in Europe working for almost three years,” she noted, adding: What I’m sad about is ‘People just grabbed some clickbait stuff to be divisive.’ When we can’t be that way right now, everything you say is just designed to be divisive.”
She lives abroad with her husband José Bastón, 6 years old son Santiago.
But Navarro reminded her of what she had said years ago, that it felt like ‘shutting off the noise’ by living in Europe.
Longoria agreed, saying: ‘I mean it’s definitely in a bubble being away from the constant 24-hour news cycle.’ That’s why I’m in Europe. I didn’t leave because of politics. They told me my work would take me there.”
During our ‘Behind The Table’ podcast, Ana Navarro’s friend Eva Longoria unexpectedly called her while she taped, and she responded to headlines that she left the United States because of President-elect Trump’s victory. Listen to ‘Behind the Table’ here:
