Gwen Stefani has revealed why she doesn’t appear to age.
Stefani is the co-founder, lead vocalist, and primary songwriter of the band No Doubt, whose hits include ‘Don’t Speak’ and ‘Just a Girl.’
She’s also had a hugely successful solo career, with six singles reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
Outside of music, Stefani has the makeup brand GXVE (pronounced ‘give’), which allows her fans to emulate her ‘bold and expressive’ looks.
Over the years, fans have wondered how the ‘Rich Girl’ singer still looks as amazing as she did when her music career began.
Now, she’s revealed all her secrets…
The 55-year-old has opened up about her beauty routine, including tips and tricks you can follow at home.
Let’s check them out:
1. Hydration
Stefani has a seemingly wrinkle-free complexion and she says it’s because her ‘skincare secret is hydration.’
Discussing her makeup line, the ‘Cool’ artist said in an interview with LVR magazine: “It helps give your skin a youthful, moist glow.
“I just want to look as good as I can at any age, like we all do, and share that quality makeup truly does make a big difference in how you feel. The magic is in the makeup.”
This leads to Stefani’s next piece of advice…
2. Overlining the lips
The 55-year-old, who is known for her signature red pout, ‘swears by’ overdrawing the lips, as it creates a fuller, youthful look.
“When you overdraw the top lip like that, you just get this really pouty [look],” Stefani told Glamour. “You see people hacking it all the time and it works.”
And while the ‘Luxurious’ singer encourages you to start this one habit, she’s warning you against another.
3. Never sleep with makeup on
Stefani told Forbes: “At bedtime, I always take off my makeup and put moisturizer on.”
It may seem logical to wipe your makeup off at the end of the day, but many have accrued the unhygienic habit.
Sleeping with makeup on can cause clogged pores, dull skin, dryness, puffy eyes, and generally aggravated skin.
Dr. Ash Labib, medical director at AL Aesthetics, tells Women’s Health: “When makeup is left on at night, it penetrates the sub-layers of the dermis.”
4. Routine
While looking fabulous 24/7 may appear easy, Stefani says she does have a routine but thankfully, it’s pretty simple to follow.
The ‘It’s My Life’ singer told Forbes her ‘skincare is pretty simple’ and she has a morning routine which consists of ‘a prayer, brushing my teeth and moisturizing.’
She added: “I keep my routine simple and just embrace it and let it be.”
But there’s another way Stefani makes sure to take care of skin, and it’s a pretty important way too.
5. Sun protection
Stefani says she ‘stopped sunbathing’ in her twenties and when chatting to Elle, she admitted this is the one piece of advice she’d give her 15-year-old self.
“Later in life, you’re like ‘What is that?!’ and it turns out it’s from the sun and you’re like, ‘Oh why did I do that to myself?’” she said.
Even if you’re not bothered by a wrinkle or two, it’s still a wise idea to take Stefani’s advice and wear sunscreen daily.
Sunscreen helps ‘safeguard your skin against sun damage and skin cancer,’ per the Skin Cancer Foundation.
Johns Hopkins Medicine advises you to pick a sunscreen with ‘an SPF of at least 30’ and warns that makeup with SPF is not enough to protect your skin.
6. Diet
From 12 years old, Stefani has followed a meat-free diet, however, this doesn’t mean she doesn’t indulge now and then.
With her dad’s Italian upbringing, The Voice judge was brought up on lots of filling, hearty meals.
She told Bon Appétit: “We actually eat lasagna. I don’t know when that happened. My mom makes lasagna and she’ll make one with meat and one with just ricotta cheese. I love that.”
Stefani also loves to indulge in pizza, with one occasion involving her making an enormous order.
“After a Chicago show, we literally came home with nine seven-pound Chicago deep-dish pizzas and ate a few on the plane. The next day I had my entire family over and we went to town on the rest of them,” she shared.
7. Working out
When Stefani isn’t working on new music and her other ventures, she somehow finds the time to exercise and keep fit.
In an interview with Shape, the pop star said: “I have no magic thing that I do to stay fit. I eat really clean, do my shows, and work out.”
She added that she plays tennis with her husband Blake Shelton, 48, and they also go to the gym together.
“I like to do squats and lunges and light weights. I don’t go crazy like I used to. I do just enough to make my body feel good,” Stefani concluded.
So there you have it, unlike many Hollywood stars, it appears you don’t have to break the bank to follow Stefani’s anti-aging tips.
Will you be taking up the pop star’s advice?
