The director of the first two movies of the 8 movie “Harry Potter” saga, Chris Colombus, has backed up fans who want a certain Irish star to play Voldemort in the new TV series adaptation.
He has also backed the idea of the HBO series, believing it to be a “spectacular idea”, despite fans of the original movies and books highly disagreeing, with some branding it as a “dumpster fire.”
“I think it’s a spectacular idea because there’s a certain restriction when you’re making a film,” Columbus told People.
“Our film was two hours and 40 minutes, and the second one was almost as long,” he added.
Speaking on the popular book series, Colombus added that he and others who worked on the first two movies “tried to get as much of the book in as possible.”
“The fact that they have the leisure of [multiple] episodes for each book, I think that’s fantastic.”
“You can get all the stuff in the series that we didn’t have an opportunity to do … all these great scenes that we just couldn’t put in the films.”
“I look forward to seeing what they’re trying to do with it. I think it’s great.”
Casting and production of the new TV series is still ongoing and not an awful lot has been revealed in regards to choosing the right actors which has led to a lot of speculation and fan casting.
One actor who is talked about to play the next Voldemort is Oppenheimer Irish star Cillian Murphy.
The original actor of Voldemort, Ralph Fiennes, is certainly something of a challenge to compete with, but some have cheered Cillian as a great contender, adding that he has a “great commanding voice.”
Chris Colombus is one of Cillian’s fans who is backing this fan casting, “Well, Cillian is one of my favourite actors, so that would be amazing.”
“Cillian is a fantastic actor (…) I would be all in favour of Cillian,” he concluded.
Fiennes also revealed during a moment on Watch What Happens Live that he is in favour of the Peaky Blinders star taking over his role as the Dark Lord.
“Cillian is a fantastic actor,” he said.
“That’s a wonderful suggestion.”
“I would be all in favour of Cillian.”
“Yeah.”
