Kate has expressed regret over her decision to leave Liam in Argentina and return to Florida before him.
In a conversation with The Sun, Kate shared the reason she left early was to care for their rescue dog, Nala, and not because there were any issues between them. Kate also disclosed Liam’s past struggles with mental health and substance abuse. She added despite that, he appeared to be in a positive place when they last saw each other at the hotel.
“We were in such a great place, just full of love; he was so happy and positive. And I just can’t even believe the way things truly ended.”
“Love is so optimistic, and you just hope that everything will work out in the end. Obviously, if I knew, if I could see into the future, I would never have left Argentina.”
Recalling her bittersweet memories about Liam, Kate mentioned after returning to Florida she was eager to surprise him with how she had decorated their home for Halloween. The last message she sent Liam before his passing was, “I can’t wait for you to get home and see the house.” It was just another loving message, one she never imagined would become the final message she would send him.
Mentioning the tragic accident as something she never could have anticipated, Kate continued,
“I never thought. But, you know, we did have our own separate lives—this wasn’t the first time we had traveled apart. It still doesn’t feel real to me that he’s gone. I’m trying to do my best, but my life has changed so much”
Heartbroken, she added, “I think about Liam every second of every day.”
Kate also told the newspaper how she still calls Liam’s phone just to hear his voicemail, a small comfort that helps her feel connected to him.
