We are sure you’re familiar with the well-known community of Reddit called AITA (short for “AM I The A**hole”). Who isn’t?
For those losers in the back, it is a popular subreddit where its members share their real personal scenarios and let the community come to a conclusion about whether they are “The A-hole” or “Not The A-Hole.”
How it works, you ask? Users describe their complete conflict in detail and also the backstory of the people involved, any particular action that can help the community decide. The community then votes and comments, passing helpful judgments. The entire experience is reliable, engaging, and entertaining.
Vacation, a getaway. Let’s admit it, we all love the idea of it. Stepping away from the daily grind, exploring, fresh air, cocktails—even the sunshine hits different on a vacation, right? But a solo vacation when you’re dating someone?
A 39-year-old Reddit user, AudDMurphy, sparked a debate online when he turned to Reddit for help. “AITA for going on vacation without my girlfriend if she can’t pay her way?”
In the post, this man explains that the whole situation came up when he wanted to take an actual vacation for his 40th birthday, the criteria of it being at least a week-long international trip. While he tells the community about his hard work to get his finances in shape to finally be able to afford something recreational for himself, he also explains his girlfriend situation. She’s 33, works hard, but does not make as much money as him. Taking care of the entire trip’s cost seemed impossible for her and suggested they go somewhere cheaper. Keeping his criteria in mind, this man tried convincing her girl he should take the trip alone and will be back in a week. Well, she became upset, and “it caused a bit of a fight.”
The community came forward. Some comments claimed he is “NTA” (Not The A-Hole) since “3 months and she expects you to either pay for her to go on an international, week-long vacation?”
Some took a stronger approach. “MATE, RUN.” He further added, “This is not someone who cares about you. RUN.” A large number of people seemed to agree with him.
“Person $20k in debt wants to go to Vegas. Perfect.” “NTA.”
While most of them were calling her a red flag, some agreed with the girl’s argument.
“YTA. If her having debt is a red flag, you should have ended the relationship.” She further added, “And this is probably why you’re almost 40 and not married.”
“You are quite a few years older than your girlfriend. You should not expect her to be in the same place,” someone else replied.
AudDMurphy was finally voted “Not An A-Hole.”
Did his relationship survive the solo trip? We, too, are waiting for updates.
