Matt Damon has finally broken his silence over the age-old comparisons with co-actor Jesse Plemons, stating he takes the similarity as a compliment.
Fans and industry experts over the years have noted remarkable similarities between the two actors—not only in looks but also in the way they perform.
Both possess the talent of bringing deep, nuanced characters to life and have delivered critically acclaimed performances in diverse genres.
Damon, who has worked in Good Will Hunting, The Bourne Identity, The Martian, and Oppenheimer, among other films, has been in the business for decades.
Plemons, on the other hand, started out as a child actor and rose to prominence after giving notable performances in Breaking Bad, Fargo, The Power of the Dog, and Killers of the Flower Moon.

Discussing the similarities in a recent interview, Damon indicated that he respects Plemons and considers the similarity as complimentary.
“I’m proud of the comparison,” Damon said. “Jesse is a great actor, and I think he’s one of the greatest of his generation. If people tell us we look alike, I’ll take it as a compliment any day.”
Remarkably, the relationship between Damon and Plemons is not merely physical. Looking back at their past, Damon shared that Plemons was originally cast to take on a younger version of himself in the 2000 film All The Pretty Horses. Plemons’ scenes eventually did not make it to the release.
Although the character never appeared on the big screen, it was an early sign of the similarity and relationship that would eventually become a point of debate among fans and the industry.
Though the similarity is apparent, it’s their mutual take on acting that has invited even more comparisons. The two are equally renowned for vanishing into performances, playing ordinary folks and intense, morally ambiguous characters alike.
Hollywood’s biggest directors have hired Damon, and he lauded Plemons’ diversity, adding that he can easily flip between types of roles.
“He’s got such a wonderful range,” Damon added. “I’ve seen him play from villain to likable underdog and he acquires it perfectly.”
Plemons, who has incrementally developed his reputation with his intense performances on television and on the big screen, has previously also recognized the comparisons in interviews. Instead of being irritated about it, he has stated appreciation for Damon’s career and skills.
The comparison has even become the subject of jokes among Hollywood insiders, with some joking that Plemons could play a young Damon in an upcoming movie convincingly. Even some fans have made side-by-side photos and funny memes indicating their similarity, fueling further debate.
Even with comparisons, both men have managed to forge their own distinct careers. Damon has long been among the most bankable stars in Hollywood, starring in blockbuster hits as well as dramatic fare that won critical acclaim.
Plemons has been establishing himself as one of the most solid character actors working in the business, frequently stealing scenes in his supporting roles and increasingly playing lead roles.
No matter their similarities, there’s one thing that’s sure: both of these actors bring untold talent to the screen, and their work ethic continues to amaze fans across the globe.
