The show has left Netflix viewers ‘sickened’ with its graphic content.
The TV drama that’s airing now has streaming giant fans threatening to cancel their subscriptions.
Because it’s based on the life of an adult star, some scenes have sparked a heated debate with viewers.
But online it received a lot of negative feedback and a clip of the divisive show was shared, then quickly deleted, on Netflix’s official Instagram account.
One person wrote: “Now we also have p*** on Netflix, too?.” My kids can’t see this. So while we speak, I cancel the account.”
Another agreed: “This is inappropriate for a PLATFORM WHERE KIDS FOLLOW YOU?!”
“Now we’re just mainstreaming p*** are we?” A third viewer questioned: ‘It’s pretty sickening that there should be no warning on explicit content of this nature.’ Women who post a picture breastfeeding get flagged yet. “Put stuff like this out” — if that’s what you’re doing, this should be a separate category on Netflix.”
‘A further concerned fan opined that ‘I’m not sure I like the direction Netflix is going.’
Somebody else penned: Sad, too, that this is accepted in modern culture. “This is depressing and degrading to the value of both genders in the hyper s**ualisation of our society and generation.”
According to the platform, the show is ‘the story of how Rocco Siffredi went from a humble life to becoming the world’s greatest p*** star.’
In its official synopsis for the show, IMDb adds: “His family, his origins, his relationship, the context that made him enter the p****graphy and accept that the demon in his body is compatible with love.
”Supers**, a seven part series, stars Alessandro Borghi as Siffredi, who appeared in over 1,500 X-rated films.
Francesca Manieri, the filmmaker behind the series, tells The Independent: “My goal was to get men in front of themselves.”
This is what we call the phallocentric system, the system for which the d*** is the center of the thought before everything.
“So what can you do today, 2024, to see what’s the relationship between a man and a woman?” Because how can men stand in front of the image of their symbolic d*** and try to deconstruct all of this?”
Controversial though it is, the movie has received a few decent reviews from critics.
Rohan Naahar writes for the Indian Times: Even when the show threatens to fly off the rails, Borghi is endlessly watchable. He makes Siffredi, who could have easily been an odious man, vulnerable.
“Helps, too, that the character – at least the version of him that is created for the show – always is the first to point out his flaws. In the long run, self awareness is what will win the audience over, because nothing is more unappealing than watching a loose cannon shoot the shit and not have a clue of what kind of damage they are doing.”
“Supers** isn’t an exploration of the life and career of one man, but it is a look at the lives people lead when they dare to move through the world as their most authentic selves, however unconventional they may be.”
