One of American TV personality, 41, post on the internet has had fans up in arms.
Penelope, his daughter with ex partner Kourtney Kardashian, is in the post.
Disick and Kardashian were in an on-and-off relationship from 2006 to 2015.
The pair share three children: Mason, Penelope, and Reign.
Although the couple is no longer together—and Kardashian is now married to Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker—the exes remain an active part of each other’s lives.
In an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Kardashian spoke about her bond with Disick, saying, “Scott and I, we’re going to be in each other’s lives forever. We are soulmates, in a sense. No matter what, whether we’re ever together or not.”
Although their relationship faced challenges—including Disick’s alleged infidelity and struggles with addiction—the pair now focus on co-parenting their children.
The TV star shared with People, “I think Scott will always be family, so we really try to have a good relationship for the kids. We do our best to make the kids the priority.”
Disick’s appearances over the years on Keeping Up with the Kardashians and now The Kardashians on Disney+ have certainly provided him with a substantial platform, amassing an Instagram following of over 29 million.
However, some fans expressed displeasure over an Instagram post featuring him and his daughter.
One fan commented, “Wow, and this is a prime example of how racism is taught. People aren’t born with it. Ignorance at its finest.”
Another person commented, “It’s a parent’s responsibility to teach a kid to do the right thing.”
A third user agreed, adding, “All that wealth, you’d think some would go towards education on ignorance and cultural sensitivity.”
Racist stereotypes have persisted for years, including mockery of the East Asian eye shape.
In East Asian countries, a common eye feature is the epicanthic fold, often referred to as monolid eyes, where the upper eyelid meets the inner corner of the eye.
One way individuals express racism towards these communities is by using their fingers to pull back their eyes in an attempt to mimic their features.
The “slant-eyes” stereotype serves as a derogatory slur against East Asian people.
The stereotype originated in 19th-century Western propaganda, where Asian immigrants were often portrayed in illustrations with yellow skin, buck teeth, and slit eyes, according to Dictionary.com.
In the Instagram post, Disick is seated with his daughter at a restaurant.
As Penelope and Disick pose for the snap, the 12-year-old pulls her eyelids up.
To make matters worse, they are at an Asian restaurant with chopsticks on the table while smiling for the photo.
Many commenters interpreted this as Penelope engaging in the Asian “slant-eyes” slur, given their location at an Asian restaurant.
One user expressed their frustration, saying, “Why the F is his daughter doing that? Eating Asian food and being racist??”
However, some fans quickly defended the photo, stating, “You people are disgusting talking about a child being racist because she made a funny face?”
Another commenter added, “How is that racist? I see a little child making a silly face.”
A third user remarked, “I’m Chinese. If you mock Asian eyes, you pull OUT, not UP.”
