Life of a celebrity is not an easy one to live. With all the fame and glamour, comes a price to pay. Being constantly in the limelight, celebrities are open to the public eye and, most of the time, stay under attack online with leaked intimate photos and videos.
Unfortunately, the famous British singer, Tulisa Contostavlos, also became a victim of revenge porn when an intimate video of her got leaked online.
Widely known for her grime and hip-hop group N-dubs, Tulisa is a renowned singer, songwriter and television personality. The group gave multiple hits like “I need you” and “Playing with Fire”. Along with the successful band journey, Tulisa also released her solo music, making her debut in 2012 with single “Young” which topped the UK Singles Chart.
The same year, Tulisa faced setback due to personal controversies as her intimate video circulated online. The X-rated video was leaked online by her ex-boyfriend Justin Edwards. Although he initially denied his involvement but later confessed in court for sharing the video, faced with overwhelming evidence, for financial gain and damaging the singer’s reputation. Despite winning the legal battle, Tulisa decided to take a step back from the public eye.
Last year, the renowned singer made a reappearance as her former band members reunited and released a new album. In a recent episode of “So Wrong It’s Right” podcast, hosted by Olivia Attwood, Tulisia shared her excitement about reconnecting with her bandmates and sharing new music with fans.
In the podcast, she also opened up about her traumatic experience of the X-rated tape scandal and the impact she faced because of the life-changing incident. Describing her feeling as “virtual rape”, she said,
“Honestly, there’s no words to describe. It felt like virtual r*pe, that’s the only way I can describe the emotion.”
She further added, “It was just horrific. I felt so, just, judged and I felt disgusting, I felt ashamed.”
“I just became miserable by the end of that second year, I wasn’t going to do the [The X Factor] show again.”
She also discussed how the scandal has negatively affected her relationships and intimacy. She continued, “I just hated it, I hated it every day. It’s affected my relationships to this day and intimacy and all those kinds of things – it’s life-changing in a big, big way.”
She also told the Guardian about the detrimental effects, caused by the leaked video, on her intimate life. She said, “It’s had the most long-term effects. It has really affected my love life and my intimacy. I feel so much shame surrounding it that my relationship to s*x doesn’t feel the same.”
The fact that the X-rated video was leaked by her ex-boyfriend she dated when in teens and the video was recorded during their relationship had a major negative impact on the renowned singer. Tulisa revealing herself being demisexual, she added
“I’ve kind of always been that way. But me being that kind of person, and then having the experiences I’ve had, has put me so far back into my shell.”
“I only deal with people I already know. I’ve just recycled ex-boyfriends for the past 10 years. A new person coming in doesn’t have a chance.”
