A woman has gone viral after sharing the kids’ names which teachers see as an instant ‘red flag.’
It’s a sad fact of life that your name can greatly impact how people treat you. From the moment your parents choose yours, you’re set out on a certain path in life.
Now, a baby name vlogger has reached out to teachers to find out which names they believe spell trouble.
SJ Strum has taken to YouTube and revealed the names of children that teachers have judged, sometimes before even getting to know them.
People have taken to social media and responded, with many criticizing teachers for making such judgments.
One person writes: “Their name is a simple label, not a ‘sentence’ to be hung on them!”
Another comments: “Teachers who place this kind of judgment should not be teachers.”
“The kids didn’t name themselves, their parents did,” points out a third.
Somebody else writes: “Teachers predisposed will end up bringing out the worst of a person instead of bringing out the best.”
In the viral video, Strum begins: “The number one thing which came up time and time again, the absolutely biggest pet peeve, bugbear, that teachers have when it comes to kids in their classroom is a common name with unique spellings. It’s just something that is confusing for the teacher and really confusing for the kid as well.
“Emma-Leigh as a double-barrelled for Emily really was a tough one and Jaxsyn spelled like this. Imagine with this spelling and there was even a Fee-Bee.”
The vlogger elaborates: “Teachers said they really like unique names, as long as they are not weird. Unique names that are spelled easily and correctly to say are absolutely fine. They liked names like Sage, Joanie, Scout.”
Strum then reveals the list of names teachers see as ‘red flags,’ continuing: “A lot of teachers were like ‘Yep, there are names that are red flags.’ There were some that stuck out and came up again and again.
“Jake, Max, Jack, and the biggest one for boys was anything ending in den – so Hayden, Jayden, apparently always naughty, always disruptive, not listening.
“When it came to girls it was quite interesting, apparently Islas and Jessicas are really chatty names. Apparently, Martha is high-maintenance. Alexandra can be a bit of a bully apparently.
“So, there are names that people judge. It is very common.”
According to What To Expect, the top five most common baby boy names in the U.S. are Liam, Noah, Oliver, James, and Elijah. For girls, it’s Olivia, Emma, Charlotte, Amelia, and Sophia.
