A rescue dog was tragically killed after a UPS driver reportedly threw a 55-Ib package over a fence.
Naria Harutjunjan, based in North Hills, Los Angeles, U.S., rescued adorable pup Lulu a year before the traumatizing incident and over that time, the pair became incredibly close.
The last time she was with her beloved dog, Harutjunjan told her (per MailOnline): “I don’t know, Lulu, why, but I love you so much.”
The Los Angeles resident is now speaking out about the devastating day her pet passed away, and how surveillance footage shows the driver making a delivery.
Harutjunjan’s two dogs, Cookie and Lulu, were playing in the garden around 5 p.m. when her next-door neighbor’s security camera captured a UPS driver approaching the home with a large package.
The delivery driver allegedly tossed a 55-Ib parcel – more than double Lulu’s weight – over the fence.
Harutjunjan’s Ring camera reportedly captured the UPS driver then squatting down and even looking towards the gate.
It is unclear whether the driver knew the dog was there when he allegedly tossed the package over the fence.
When Harutjunjan went to bring her two dogs back inside, she was left concerned when only Cookie returned.
It wasn’t until she went outside that she saw the horrific sight.
The dog owner told KCAL News: “I took the package and I saw my dog, she couldn’t move anymore.”
She continued: “My neighbors were there. They helped me with the dog to bring her to the Mission Hills clinic. But they said she passed away.”
Heartbroken and horrified, Harutjunjan contacted UPS and Amazon regarding the alleged incident. She claims the latter facilitated the purchase.
UPS has released a statement responding to the reports: “We recently learned of the situation in North Hills.
“We are certainly concerned and will contact the customer. We will investigate and take appropriate action.”
When contacted by the New York Post, UPS didn’t elaborate on whether the driver was punished for the alleged action or whether he violated any company protocol by throwing a package over the fence.
Now, Harutjunjan is considering legal action against UPS, the driver, and Amazon.
This isn’t the first time a UPS driver has allegedly harmed a dog by throwing a heavy parcel.
A delivery driver was reportedly caught hurling a package – containing a wheelchair – over a gate in Florida in 2022.
Fortunately, the dog was uninjured in this case.
The homeowner told Fox 13 they were only made aware of the incident as they had a security camera that captured the shocking moment.
