The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has presented us with some of the all-time best superhero films, but not all have been winners. Some films left fans disappointed due to poor storytelling, inadequate character development, or simply failing to meet expectations. As per the views of TwistKoala followers, below are the worst 10 MCU movies.
10. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Fans were expecting a lot from this film, but most were left disappointed. Although it boasted stunning visual effects and horror-tinged elements courtesy of director Sam Raimi, the narrative was rushed, and character development, particularly Wanda’s, left most viewers disgruntled.
9. The Marvels (2023)
A follow-up to Captain Marvel, this film attempted to unite various heroes but ultimately failed to establish a compelling narrative. The dialogue was awkward, the stakes were undefined, and the film did not make much of a contribution to the larger MCU storyline.

8. Eternals (2021)
Although its beautiful looks and new approach to mythology were equally captivating, Eternals had problems with character development and pacing. With so many new characters appearing simultaneously, it was difficult for the audience to relate to them, leaving the film sluggish and convoluted.
7. Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Most fans were looking forward to another epic journey following Thor: Ragnarok, but what they received was a movie that was too comedic. The humor was usually misplaced, and Gorr the God Butcher, Christian Bale, was wasted despite being a fantastic villain in the comics.

6. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)
This movie introduced Kang the Conqueror, but he was not as threatening as Ant-Man fans had hoped. The world of the Quantum Realm, which relied heavily on CGI, seemed dead, and the jokes did not hit the mark. The fans also felt that this installment lacked the charm of Ant-Man.

5. Iron Man 2 (2010)
Following the success of Iron Man, the sequel was a disappointment. The plot was a mess, with too many subplots, and the villain, Whiplash, was forgettable. It was more like a setup for subsequent MCU movies than a good standalone film.
4. Captain Marvel (2019)
Although this film performed well at the box office, most fans found it to be disappointing. Carol Danvers’ character was not well-developed emotionally, and the film’s pacing was inconsistent. It had a predictable plot and failed to reach its full potential.
3. Thor: The Dark World (2013)
Often considered one of the weakest MCU films, this movie featured a forgettable villain, Malekith, and a story that felt uninspired. While Loki’s scenes were entertaining, the overall film lacked excitement and failed to leave a lasting impact on fans.

2. The Incredible Hulk (2008)
Most MCU enthusiasts forget this film even exists, and for a valid reason. Edward Norton’s Bruce Banner was fine, but the movie lacked the heart and charm that subsequent MCU movies would have. The action was bland, and it did not add much to the overall universe.
1. Secret Invasion (2023 – Disney+ Series, but included for MCU ranking)
Although technically a series, Secret Invasion tends to be counted among the list of disappointing MCU projects. Featuring a sluggish plot and missed opportunities for fantastic espionage narratives, fans were disappointed by how little exciting action and character development there was.
Even the greatest franchises have some missteps, and the MCU is no different. Although these movies had their highlights, they fell short of what most fans expected. Agree or disagree with this list, or do you rank them differently? Let us know your opinion!
