Lynsey, who later admitted that she didn’t particularly enjoy the drink, was under the impression that the cocktail cost £18.90. Therefore, you can understand her astonishment when she received a bill totaling a staggering £2,000.

Certainly, a total of two thousand pounds.

Lynsey, who goes by the username @lynsey_36, recently shared a video clip on TikTok – said: “So when I discovered the cocktail I had ordered was £2,000, I showed my husband the receipt and he was furious at me.”

“So he left the bar. Left me on my own to deal with it. And I said to the young guy behind the bar, ‘look I’m so sorry, I had no idea it was £1,890.”

Lynsey then clarified that the price on the menu was displayed with a space, like this: 18 90. This led her to believe that it was £18.90. However, upon closer examination, she noticed that the other prices were presented with a decimal point in the middle. She acknowledges that it was “definitely [her] mistake”.

As panic started to take hold, Lynsey urgently conveyed to the bartender her inability to afford two thousand dollars for just a few drinks. It was at that moment that the manager intervened to inquire about the situation.

Despite it being her mistake, Lynsey acknowledges that the manager handled the situation with utmost discretion and kindness. He assured her that he would rectify the issue, allowing her to retreat to her room and enjoy the remainder of her stay.

However, accomplishing that is more challenging than it sounds when faced with a looming £2,000 bill and Lynsey’s efforts to steer clear of the bar made the next four days quite tense.

Lynsey eventually found herself back at the bar, where she was warmly welcomed by the manager, bringing her immense relief. However, this relief was short-lived as she inquired about the bartender’s whereabouts, only to be informed that he had been dismissed.

Lynsey was horrified and explained: “So I burst into tears. I was so terribly, terribly upset. I said, ‘look it’s not worth the guy’s job. I will pay the £2,000. I’m so, so, so sorry. It wasn’t his fault.’”

Thankfully, it was revealed to be a jest, as the manager assured us that no one had been dismissed. However, the bartender in question was assigned to undergo retraining due to this recurring incident. It was emphasized that he should have ensured customers were aware of the drink’s price prior to preparing it.

Therefore, it is imperative to thoroughly verify the prices prior to placing an order, right?
