Some Slaves Had Higher Authority
Slavery was a fundamental institution in ancient Rome, and slaves played a crucial role in the economy and daily life of the city. While most slaves had limited rights and freedoms, some had higher status, depending on the people they served.

People who served in wealthy households or had specialized skills were given a higher level of authority. Emperor Caligula was known for his cruelty and he treated some of his slaves with extreme favoritism, giving them special privileges and authority over others.
