Worst Punishment of Them All
Punishments in ancient Rome were cruel and unusual, to say the least. Crucifixion was considered the ultimate punishment, but there was a far stranger method, reserved for those who committed parricide—the act of killing one’s parents or other close relatives.

It was called poena cullei, better known as “Punishment of the Sack”. The condemned individual would be placed in a sack with various animals, such as a snake, monkey, rooster, and dog, and then thrown into a body of water, where they would drown. Sounds nasty.
