Sci-fi fans, assemble! Sigourney Weaver has left the door open to making a possible comeback to her iconic character of Ellen Ripley from the Alien series.
The 74-year-old actress, renowned for playing the fearless heroine, recently revealed that although nothing is set in stone, it’s “not impossible” for her to return.
Weaver made her debut as Ellen Ripley in Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien and went on to appear in a number of sequels, including James Cameron’s Aliens (1986), for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress.

Her image of Ripley as a gritty but accessible heroine redefined the female action hero and earned her a place among the most iconic film characters.
Even with the franchise going in different directions over the years, the fans never lost hope that Weaver would come back. Today, it appears that the door is not closed after all.
The actress was recently asked during an interview if she would ever get back into Ripley’s shoes.
She admitted that she is protective of the character and does not want to ruin the reputation of Ripley’s story.

“It’s not impossible,” Weaver replied, continuing, “but it would have to be something very special.”
Weaver is not an actress who ever came at roles lightly, and Ripley is no exception. She has already rejected scripts in the past, which she felt did not add anything to the story.
I believe the Alien movies have a heritage that matters to people,” she said. “If I ever return, it would have to be in a manner that respects that.”
The Alien universe is expanding, with writer and director Fede Álvarez developing a new entry, Alien: Romulus, and Noah Hawley creating an Alien TV series.
Neither project has publicly announced Weaver’s participation, but the possibility of Ripley making a surprise comeback is enough to get fans excited.

Could we see an older, wiser Ripley mentoring a new generation? Or perhaps a final chapter that brings closure to her story? The possibilities are endless.
The moment Weaver’s comments surfaced, social media exploded with excitement. Many fans expressed their hopes for a proper Ripley comeback, while others debated whether her story should remain untouched.
One fan tweeted:
“If Sigourney Weaver’s willing to reprise as Ripley, then we NEED to do it. The queen of sci-fi gets the send-off she deserves!”
Another said:
“Ripley is THE greatest action heroine of all time. If she’s returning, I’m in for opening night!”
Even if Weaver never appears again in the franchise, her legacy as Ellen Ripley will never be forgotten. Her character defined powerful female protagonists in action films and continues to influence new generations of actors and filmmakers.
Alien fans can only dream for now that Ripley’s saga isn’t over yet.
