After Elon Musk made a controversial move at Donald Trump‘s inauguration numerous X users have started deleting their accounts.
On January 20, Trump became the 47th President of the United States, while the X CEO delivered a speech at the inauguration party.
As head of Trump’s Doge department Musk secured ownership of X in April 2022.
The billionaire angered users when switching from free blue verification to a paid model that requires $100 (£81) each year.
Even with all the problems, lots of X users stayed loyal, but Musk’s actions during the inauguration pushed some of them to leave the platform.

After watching Musk’s speech, one user declared: I will quit Twitter while Elon Musk owns it. I am not going to take part in making this app profitable. You can still reach me on BlueSky if you’re looking for me.
Alongside an attachment of Musk’s speech, another said: “And with that, I’m leaving Twitter. I plan to lock down every account I own on all platforms by tonight’s midnight deadline. While I’ll keep streaming live content, I’ll do it from different platforms—bye!
“I’ve decided to leave Twitter after everything that’s happened.” The third user declared their departure from Twitter through a simple statement.
Somebody else commented: “Elon Musk is a joke. I will not return to Twitter after today.”
More brands are joining the exit, including a brewery from the U.K. – Northern Monk.
In a statement, the brand said: “We started a company that disagrees with some messages being shared on X. We stand for togetherness and welcoming everyone, so we’re ending our time on X starting now.”

Several Twitter users stand by Musk’s decision and think the controversy was made on purpose to attract more attention to X.
Some people think: “Musk made this move specifically to drive more users to X.”
On X, Musk responded to those upset about his post by telling them to develop more innovative strategies to create controversy. People have used the Hitler comparison too many times to make it work anymore.
